Traditions, science and friendship: the international Olympiad “Tuymaada” has started in Yakutia

On July 3, the XXXII International Olympiad of Schoolchildren “Tuymaada” in mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science named after M.A. Alekseev was officially opened on the basis of the Junior Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). This year the Olympiad brought together 165 talented participants from 11 regions of Russia and 5 countries. Competitions are going to be in hybrid format: some teams participate face-to-face, and some participate remotely..
Among offline participants – teams of Primorsky Krai, Novosibirsk and Kaliningrad regions, the Republic of Buryatia, as well as two national teams of Yakutia: juniors and seniors. Throughout several days, the students will compete in solving the hardest tasks, showing their high level knowledge and determination to the new discoveries.
Olympiad “Tuymaada”: traditions, goals and the atmosphere
The International Olympiad “Tuymaada” has been the hallmark of Yakutia and one of the most prestigious intellectual events in the region for a long time. Its main goals are to develop the intellectual potential of students, popularize fundamental sciences, as well as to expand international partnership and exchange experience between young researchers.
On the first day of the Olympiad, a cultural, scientific and educational program was organized for the participants.With the curators, the students visited the unique sights of Yakutsk: “The Kingdom of Permafrost” and the Museum of History and Culture named after E.M. Yaroslavsky. On the same day, participants had a fun evening of getting to know each other, where they were able not only to chat, but also to prove themselves in team games, talk about their hobbies and complete interesting tasks. From the very first minutes it became clear that the participants of the Olympiad are real researchers who know how to work in a team, think creatively and approach projects with scientific precision.
Science and professional orientation meeting: experts are speaking
Popular science lecture and professional orientation meeting have a special place in the program. Mira Savvina, a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine and Human Genetics at the M.K. Ammosov NEFU and a lecturer at the Russian Society Znanie, described human genetics, shared interesting facts and answered questions from students. Victoria Longinova, a senior lecturer at the NEFU Institute of Physics and Technology, held a career guidance meeting where she spoke about the opportunities for admission to the institute and the advantages of participating in the Tuymaada Olympiad.
Grand opening ceremony and introduction to the culture of the Sakha people
The official opening of the Olympiad took place in front of the educational and laboratory building of the Junior Academy of Sciences. The Olympiad flag was ceremoniously raised here, after which the participants and guests moved to the assembly hall, where traditional Yakut treats were waiting for them: pancakes, byrpakh and mors. Each participant tied a ribbon on the salama, which decorates the improvised sacred tree, making a cherished wish.

– Alexey Golikov, vice-rector for educational and methodological work of NEFU named after. M.K. Ammosov
– Vladimir Egorov, General Director of the Trust Fund for Future Generations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)
They noted the importance of the Olympiad for the region and emphasized that Tyumaada has become the platform for identifying and supporting talented schoolchildren from all over the world.
The opening ceremony also included a presentation of a booklet with tasks of the International Olympiad in Mathematics and Physics, published with the support of the Target Fund for Future Generations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The ceremony ended with a bright performance by the ethno-folk ensemble “DOBUN” of the Sakha Polytechnic Lyceum.
Days of intellectual battles are ahead
From July 4, participants begin to complete Olympiad tasks. Ahead of them are busy days full of new knowledge, discoveries and, of course, friendly communication.
